Mechanic's prank

If you switch the number one wire with the number seven wire on any eight-plug distributor cap here is what will happen: The vehicle will start and the engine will sound normal. When the driver puts the car in drive (if it's an automatic) or the clutch is let-out, the engine will stall.

They will then put it back in park of course and repeat with the same result. The car will be rendered inoperable until the mysterious problem is diagnosed.

STARTS - DIES - STARTS - DIES - STARTS - DIES....can be amusing on the right person.

    That's nice.

I went to a automotive trade school in the mid 80's and know a few good ones.

Easy: Piss or leave a piece of cheese on the engine block. Angle the windshield washers to spray towards the side walk. Take the oil cap off. (Lots of smoke if they dont catch it early.)

Hard: Switch the turn signal wires at the relay. Switch the headlight and brake light wires. (Requires a lot of time and a wiring diagram.)

Best one I did was on a 1975ish ford parked in a gravel lot. I jacked up the rear end 2 inches and put a block under the differencial. I shoved gravel under the rear tires and stuck a wire hanger into the front universal joint. The guy got into his car in the morning late for class, fired it up, shifted into reverse and heard a loud WACK, WACK, WACK, coming from his transmission area and his car not moving. He freaked! Good stuff. He figured something was up when he looked over into the apts and saw everyone laughing at him.
